Heroes—Friends and Faux Alike!

In the wake of yet another unsuccessful attempt to grab Pikachu, Team Rocket comes up with a new plan: dress up like Ash, Serena, and Bonnie, then run around town, wreaking havoc everywhere! When the actual Ash, Serena, and Bonnie arrive in town, they learn of the strange goings-on and promise Officer Jenny, they will stay out of trouble while she investigates.

Meanwhile, Jessie and James, now disguised as scientists from the Kalos Institute of Technology, have lured Clemont away from the others and coaxed him into helping them with a couple of their robots. The next day, using these Clemont-improved devices (which they’re calling “Team Rocketronic Gear”), they grab Pikachu and make their getaway—until Clemont introduces a new invention! Team Rocket is sent blasting off again, Pikachu is safely returned, and our heroes resume their journey to Shalour City.

To Find a Fairy Flower!

When a tiny and sad-looking Pokémon lands in Bonnie’s hair, our heroes are determined to find out what’s wrong! Its Trainer, Grey, explains that the little Flabébé has a special bond with his wife, Florence. She recently became ill, and when Flabébé tried to visit her in the hospital, a passing car blew its flower away. Without its flower, Flabébé is growing weak, but it won’t accept just any flower as a replacement—it needs a Fairy Flower, and those are hard to find!

Our heroes set out in search of the flower, “assisted” by Team Rocket disguised as tour guides. Bonnie spots a Fairy Flower growing high on the side of a cliff, and since Flabébé is too weak to fly, she climbs up after it as Ash, Serena, and Clemont watch anxiously from below.

While they’re distracted, Team Rocket nabs Pikachu! As a battle to reclaim it begins, Flabébé bonds with its new flower, and once its energy is restored, it floats over the villains and sprinkles them with its relaxing pollen. The Team Rocket members happily release Pikachu and wander off in a joyful daze!

Our heroes take Flabébé to meet Grey at the hospital. Florence perks up immediately upon seeing her dear friend. And though Bonnie has to say goodbye, her kindness and courage have saved the day!

The fossils aren’t the amazing discovery, though—the researchers take our heroes into a special frozen habitat inside the lab, where they meet a living Amaura and Aurorus that were restored from fossils discovered in the ice!

After they leave, Team Rocket swoops in to steal Amaura for the Boss—which is a big problem, because Amaura grows weak if the temperature is too warm. Going for the Gold!

Arriving at the seaside Ambrette Town while traveling to Cyllage City, our heroes are basking in the wonderful ocean breezes. Ash wants to train there with Froakie, but Serena has another idea: pay a visit to Ambrette Aquarium! Everyone agrees, and they marvel at the vast number of Water-type Pokémon there. They also meet a gentleman who tells them a little about the aquarium and shows them a statue of a golden Magikarp. He also directs them to the aquarium’s curator, Rodman, who’s fishing on the beach with his rather prickly Clauncher.

Rodman tells our heroes a local legend about a golden Magikarp who once rescued a diver in danger, and says he’s trying to catch it for the aquarium so everyone can see it! Ash, Serena, and Clemont want to help him catch it, and he happily hands out fishing rods. Of course, Team Rocket has been listening in on the conversation, and the villains want to catch the golden Magikarp for themselves...

No one is having any luck, so Clemont produces an invention to lure Magikarp in toward the shore. It’s not quite as fine-tuned as Clemont hoped, instead of attracting several cranky Sharpedo. Not to be defeated, Clemont reveals yet another invention, determined that this next one will work right. And sure enough, all the fishing rods get a bite at the same time, and with a mighty effort, our heroes and Rodman reel in their catch—and it’s a golden Magikarp! Unfortunately, this one is Team Rocket’s new submarine, which they designed to fool the real golden Magikarp.

After they send Jessie, James, and Meowth blasting off again, our heroes and Rodman are ready to call it a day. But just as they’re about to leave, a magnificent golden Magikarp leap out of the water! A Pokévision of Things to Come!

Our heroes have arrived at a Pokémon Center on their way to Cyllage City, where Ash discovers the world of Pokévision—promotional videos that Trainers make to show off their Pokémon. They then upload their finished videos to an online viewing site, and after viewers vote for their favorites, the top ten videos are announced. Serena decides she wants to make a Pokévision video with Fennekin, and Bonnie wants to make a video with Dedenne. But since Dedenne isn’t her Pokémon, she decides to make a video starring Clemont as part of her ongoing quest to find him a wife, much to his chagrin.

Things get off to a rough start: Clemont is completely tongue-tied in front of the camera, so Bonnie agrees to say his lines while Clemont lip-syncs. But when Clemont produces one of his inventions, a video robot with mastery of all types of camera shots, things go very wrong indeed, and Serena and Fennekin are covered in soot after an equipment explosion! Luckily, the Pokémon Center has complete video editing capabilities plus an extensive wardrobe department.

Although Ash initially goes off on his own to do some special training for his upcoming Gym battle with Grant, he finally decides to help out with the videos, and production is again underway. At the same time, Team Rocket has been observing our heroes, and Meowth comes up with a plan to steal their Pokémon.

The “Pokévision Rocketeers” offer to do all the production for our heroes after the Pokémon Center’s equipment “mysteriously” breaks down. And of course, Jessie is in her element as an actress! But after they get their hands on Pikachu, Dedenne, and Fennekin, Jessie just wants to make more videos, totally ignoring Team Rocket’s initial plan. It isn’t long before our heroes locate the thieves, but after Pikachu and Dedenne escape, Fennekin is reluctant to cross a large puddle to safety for fear of getting dirty. Serena rushes to the rescue, strengthening the bond between her and Fennekin even more! All the Pokémon are safely returned, and Team Rocket is sent blasting off yet again.

Finally, it’s time to view the finished Pokévision videos, and Serena and Fennekin are cute as can be. However, Bonnie’s Pokévision video of Clemont doesn’t turn out exactly as planned, and Bonnie winds up the chaotic production by confessing, “That’s my big brother!”

As Jessie, James, and Meowth are plotting yet again to steal Pikachu, they are interrupted by two mysterious figures: a hooded woman known only as Madame X, and Malamar, a Pokémon with incredible hypnotic powers. Jessie and James quickly fall under its spell, but Meowth manages to escape—and runs right into our heroes!

Ash, Serena, Clemont, and Bonnie help get the injured Meowth back on his feet, and he warns them that Madame X and Malamar are coming for Pikachu. They soon show up along with the mind-controlled Jessie and James, swoop Pikachu up with Malamar’s Psychic, and take off toward their hideout.

Clemont has a new invention, a Pikachu-shaped robot designed to track down Pikachu’s energy signature, and they follow it to an observatory...where it gets stuck in the fence and explodes. Clemont makes some quick repairs, and then Bonnie spots Officer Jenny’s motorcycle parked outside the building. When our heroes investigate, they find Madame X inside—along with Pikachu, who’s fallen under Malamar’s spell! Malamar quickly puts Serena, Bonnie, and Clemont under hypnosis as well, but Meowth attacks Ash to keep him focused.

Pikachu initially obeys Madame X’s order to stop Ash at all costs, but the bond between Ash and Pikachu is stronger than any hypnotic power, and Pikachu manages to shake off the trance. Then the Pikabot, which has resumed its tracking, bursts onto the scene. It slams into Malamar, disrupting its powers, and everyone is returned to normal—including Madame X, who throws off her hood to reveal that she’s really Officer Jenny!

Malamar does some gloating, and Meowth translates. Apparently, Malamar had a master plan to use a mind-control device to take over the world. Controlling Officer Jenny to turn her into its accomplice was only the first step, but now that its plan has been discovered, it’s decided to destroy the device. Everyone runs for it as the entire building explodes, but Malamar escapes! What will become of its master plan?

Awakening the Sleeping Giant!

Our heroes make a stop in historic Camphrier Town, where they encounter a big problem: a Snorlax is sleeping soundly in the middle of town, snoring so loudly that the noise is almost unbearable! They learn that every year, at the end of the harvest, Snorlax comes to clear out the roots from the local crops. This arrangement works out well for both sides: Snorlax gets to eat its fill of tasty roots, and the townspeople get their fields plowed in the process. Afterward, they throw a Harvest Festival to thank Snorlax for its help, and the Lord of Shabboneau Castle plays the Poké Flute—the only thing that can wake Snorlax up after a big meal. But this year, he’s refusing to attend, and no one knows why.

Ash and friends go to the castle to ask for Lord Shabboneau’s help. Eventually, he admits that Princess Allie of the nearby Parfum Palace took his Poké Flute and won’t give it back. Our heroes go to the palace in an attempt to retrieve it, but the princess refuses—at least until she notices Pikachu. She challenges Ash to a battle against her and her Furfrou, and suggests that they put the Poké Flute and Pikachu on the line! Ash and the others are appalled at this suggestion, but Princess Allie insists that it’s the only way she’ll consider giving them the flute, and Pikachu is firmly on board, so the battle begins.

The rules say that a battle is supposed to continue until one Pokémon is unable to go on, as usual. But a Thunderbolt from Pikachu messes up Furfrou’s carefully trimmed hairstyle, and Allie immediately calls a halt to send Furfrou to the groomer. Clemont declares Ash the winner, but Allie still refuses to give them the flute! This makes Clemont angry, and he delivers quite a speech telling the princess exactly what he thinks of her. His scolding seems to backfire, because Allie decides that our heroes can have the flute—as long as she gets to keep Clemont!

Ash, Serena, and Bonnie secretly assure Clemont they’ll come back for him, and head back to Camphrier Town with the flute. Lord Shabboneau is just about to start his performance to kick off the Harvest Festival when the flute is suddenly snatched from his hands by Team Rocket! Jessie, James, and Meowth think they can use the flute to control Snorlax. What actually happens is that when Jessie tries to play it, a horrible screeching noise emerges, and Snorlax wakes up in a really bad mood. The cranky Pokémon promptly sends Team Rocket blasting off again.

The Poké Flute lands in Lord Shabboneau’s hands, and his masterful playing quickly calms the giant Pokémon. The Harvest Festival is a huge success, Snorlax is awake and happy and headed home, and our heroes get ready to say their goodbyes. That’s when they suddenly realize they’ve forgotten about Clemont! But thanks to science, Clemont has made his own escape from the princess’s grasp, and their journey continues.

He’s never seen anything like Frogadier’s Quick Attack, and he wants Sanpei to teach Froakie how it’s done!

Sanpei agrees, and Froakie enters ninja training. Thanks to Serena’s costume skills, Bonnie, Dedenne, and Pikachu get to play ninja too! Sanpei takes Froakie through a series of exercises designed to increase its speed, including chasing Frogadier as it jumps swiftly from rock to rock, leaping through the trees at an incredible pace, even moving its feet fast enough to run on water. As the drills conclude, Froakie is finally ready to try its own Quick Attack.

Just then, their training is interrupted by Jessie, James, and Meowth, who have grand plans to nab Froakie and Frogadier and form their own ninja Pokémon squad for Team Rocket. They manage to net Frogadier and Pikachu, but Froakie is just too quick for them—so quick, in fact, that it creates an illusion of being in many places at once. This unexpected Double Team attack overwhelms the villains and sends them blasting off again!

With all the Pokémon safely returned, Sanpei thanks our heroes for saving Frogadier. Ash reminds him that without his generous training regimen, Froakie wouldn’t have acquired the skills that allowed it to rescue Frogadier. A Jolting Switcheroo!

Our heroes stop at a Pokémon Center on the way to Cyllage City, where they meet a Trainer named Lena and her little sister, Lyn. It seems Lyn and Bonnie have a lot in common: they’re both too young to be Trainers, but they love taking care of their older siblings’ Pokémon. They also carry identical bags, which leads to a mix-up: as they’re leaving the Pokémon Center, Lyn accidentally picks up Bonnie’s bag, and Bonnie takes Lyn’s. The girls don’t realize their mistake until they discover the wrong Pokémon inside: Lyn has ended up with Dedenne, and Bonnie is surprised to see a Pichu peering up at her! Lyn immediately runs off to try to find Pichu, leaving Lena trying to find her!

As soon as they figure out what’s happened, Ash, Serena, Clemont, and Bonnie return to the Pokémon Center to ask around. Lyn hasn’t come back, but Nurse Joy remembers a girl with a bag that looks like Bonnie’s, wearing a red ribbon in her hair. Our heroes set off in search of the little girl, and a passerby directs them to the park where she usually plays, but they have no luck. Finally, Clemont decides that the situation calls for one of his inventions! He remembers how Pikachu and Dedenne communicated with electricity the first time they met and shows off a device that will broadcast Pikachu’s electricity over a wide area in hopes that Dedenne will sense it and come find them.

At first, it seems to be working—but as usual, it explodes when Clemont tries to give it more power. The commotion draws the attention of Lena, who has also come to the park looking for Lyn. And on the other side of the park, Dedenne has picked up on the electricity and runs off in search of the source, with a frantic Lyn chasing after it! The two of them run into a wooded area—and right into an angry Beedrill. Dedenne bravely fights it off, but then the whole swarm descends...until an unexpected Thunderbolt scatters them! Pikachu, Ash, and the others have found the wayward Dedenne and Lyn just in time. The girls trade bags again, reuniting Dedenne with Bonnie and Pichu with Lyn, and everyone settles in to have lunch together before our heroes continue their journey!

An Appetite for Battle!

On their way to Cyllage City, our heroes decide to camp out for the night. Clemont puts his inventor skills to use making an excellent dinner. And for dessert, Serena brings out a basket full of her homemade macarons—but the basket is empty! Clemont quickly discovers that his Chespin has eaten them all...again!

Clemont apologizes to the others and tries to get Chespin to battle Ash’s Froakie for some exercise. But after eating all those sweets, Chespin is completely stuffed and moving slowly, and Froakie beats it easily. Bonnie challenges them next, and Dedenne wins in a flash. Chespin seems embarrassed, and Clemont is determined to get his Pokémon ready for battle again.

That night, Clemont is hard at work inventing some new exercise gear for Chespin. But he doesn’t realize Chespin has been lured away by the smell of something delicious. Still, in a snooze, Chespin follows its nose through the woods to the steps of a house, where it falls asleep again.

The next morning, Chespin wakes to discover the source of the delicious smell: fresh macarons just out of the oven! Carrie, the old woman who lives in the house, is delighted to have such an enthusiastic audience and gives Chespin all the macarons it can eat. When Clemont comes looking for his wayward Pokémon, he sees Chespin happily munching macarons with Carrie on the porch and decides Chespin is better off right where it is.

When her husband Wylie returns home, Carrie asks Chespin to take her side in a battle against him and his Delphox. Going up against a powerful Fire-type Pokémon scares Chespin, especially since its very full belly is still making it hard to battle. Sure enough, Delphox’s first attack is a direct hit, and it sends up a cloud of smoke big enough for our heroes to see from a distance. Clemont realizes Chespin is in trouble and runs back to the house, throwing himself into the line of fire! Wylie quickly calls off the battle, but Chespin wants to keep going, so Clemont asks if he can step in.

It’s still a bad matchup, but Clemont figures out that since Chespin is rounder than usual right now, it’s particularly good at rolling. He tells Chespin to keep rolling and dodging Delphox’s attacks, and eventually, Chespin starts to feel more like its usual self. Wylie is about to unleash a powerful move, despite his wife’s warnings—but in the midst of giving this dramatic order, he hurts his back! The battle is called to a draw, and Wylie and Carrie explain that the purpose of the battle was to settle an argument they had the day before. But it turns out Wylie already bought Carrie a lovely cake to apologize, and they decide to share it with our heroes as thanks for their help!

When our heroes explore the house and encounter a mysterious being with glowing eyes, Ash, Serena, and Clemont are terrified—but Bonnie runs after it to find out what’s going on, and ends up making a new friend: a Psychic-type Pokémon named Espurr! She realizes that Espurr has been responsible for all the strange happenings in the house and that it’s keeping them from leaving for some reason. Espurr shows her the lovely pendant it’s wearing and points out the same pendant in a portrait of an older woman, but Bonnie can’t figure out what it wants.

Ash, Serena, and Clemont go searching for Bonnie and run into Team Rocket instead. They accuse each other of being responsible for the “haunting,” but when they meet up with Bonnie and Espurr, they quickly figure out what’s going on, and Meowth offers to translate for Espurr so it will let them leave the house.

It seems the woman in the painting used to take care of the wild Espurr, feeding and playing with it when it came to her mansion. She even let it wear the precious pendant, a gift from her husband. But when it came back to return the pendant, the woman was gone and the house was empty. It’s been waiting in the house ever since, hoping its friend will come back for her pendant—and now it wants our heroes to help find her!

Jessie, James, and Meowth have another idea: they want to catch Espurr instead. They attack, but it quickly sends the villains blasting off again. Ash and Clemont are promising Espurr that they’ll help it find the woman who lived in the mansion when the new owner of the house arrives! Her name is Elise, and the woman who took care of Espurr was her grandmother, Lacy. Naturally, Team Rocket is lurking nearby, making plans to steal Pikachu—and Penelope’s Sylveon, too! They show up disguised as a traveling entertainment troupe and invite all the kids up on stage to play with them. When the kids are on the stage, Team Rocket sets off a series of smoke bombs. To Catch a Pokémon Smuggler!

On the road to Cyllage City, our heroes are forced to leap out of the way when a roaring truck barrels down on them, with Officer Jenny in close pursuit. When the dust clears, Ash and friends notice a cage that fell off the truck, and a weary Scatterbug that crawls out and collapses. They quickly scoop it up and take it to the nearest Pokémon Center, where Officer Jenny finds them—and tries to arrest Ash for being an accomplice in stealing the Scatterbug!

The misunderstanding is quickly sorted out. Officer Jenny explains that she’s on the trail of Dolan, a Pokémon smuggler who specializes in Scatterbug, Spewpa, and Vivillon. Because Vivillon can have wings of many different colors and patterns based on their native habitat, they’re highly prized by collectors, and Dolan takes full advantage of that.

When the Scatterbug they rescued evolves into Spewpa, Clemont notices something in its fur—it appears to be a transmitter, attached by the smuggler so he can keep track of his “merchandise.” They quickly develop a plan: one of them will wear the transmitter, plus a Spewpa disguise (provided by costume designer Serena) and act as bait, then Clemont will use one of his inventions to track the transmitter to Dolan’s secret hideout. Clemont’s Chespin is the closest to Spewpa’s size, so it gets the job!

Ash, Serena, Clemont, and Bonnie put the disguised Chespin in the cage and leave it for Dolan to find, while they and Officer Jenny hide nearby. And it works! Dolan arrives to claim his lost treasure, and then unwittingly leads our heroes to the cave where he’s keeping all the Pokémon he’s nabbed. When he catches our heroes poking around, he attacks with his Diggersby. Ash’s Froakie battles back—and then Spewpa leaps into the fray, evolves into a beautiful purple Vivillon, and uses its calming powers to take the fight right out of Dolan! Officer Jenny arrests him, and our heroes free all the captured Spewpa...who then evolve all at once, into Vivillon of many different patterns! They take to the sky in an amazing rainbow of colors, and our heroes’ journey continues.

Season 17 | Episode 11

The Bamboozling Forest!

During a lunch break on their way to Cyllage City, our heroes are being spied on as usual. But this time it’s not just Team Rocket lurking around…there are also two adorable Pancham nearby! Serena offers them some Pokémon food, but they’re not satisfied until they gobble up all of it—and our heroes’ lunch, as well! There’s no time to react, because Team Rocket takes advantage of the confusion to net Pikachu, Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie and speed away in their Meowth balloon!

Jessie, James, and Meowth have grand visions of how the Boss will reward them for this impressive haul, but they quickly get into a fight about who should get the credit for the catch. It soon turns into a real fight between James’s Inkay and Jessie’s Wobbuffet, which causes an explosion in the balloon that frees our heroes’ captured Pokémon! Meowth is sent flying off alone and ends up hanging from a tree, where he spots the other Pokémon and convinces them to cut him down. Pikachu—who’s well aware of Meowth’s double-crossing ways from their long history together—is reluctant, and Froakie is suspicious, but Chespin and Fennekin welcome him with open paws.

Jessie and James go looking for their partner in crime and run into the two Pancham from earlier—and an angry Pangoro protecting them! After it runs the villains off, Jessie trips over a Pumpkaboo sleeping in the ground—and promptly catches it, much to James’s surprise.

Meanwhile, Pangoro and Pancham have run into our heroes’ Pokémon, and a frightened Chespin unleashes a Pin Missile that accidentally destroys the bamboo sprig Pangoro always carries in its mouth. Without its beloved bamboo, the Pokémon is left weak and ill. Ash, Serena, Clemont, and Bonnie finally find the Pokémon and immediately set out to find a new bamboo sprig so Pangoro can get its strength back. They’re successful, but when they get back, Meowth has shown his true colors once again, and the Team Rocket trio has Pangoro and Pancham all tied up! But as they try to drive our heroes off with their attacks, Ash makes a risky dash for Pangoro and manages to get the bamboo sprig into its mouth. Fully restored, Pangoro bursts out of its bindings and sends the villains blasting off again!

All the harm has been repaired, and our heroes are ready to get going again...as soon as they finish their interrupted lunch!

Mega-Mega Meowth Madness!

While our heroes are in Lumiose City, Serena suggests they visit Professor Sycamore before they continue their journey, and she’s even made a batch of delicious macarons for the occasion. At the professor’s lab, they settle in with a nice cup of tea, only to discover the macarons are missing! They find the basket of treats in a corner, guarded by a very hungry Chespin who isn’t interested in sharing.

Meanwhile, Team Rocket has been researching Professor Sycamore’s studies on Mega Evolution, and the villains decide that stealing his data would be a big boost to their schemes. They break into the lab grounds, grab the professor, and throw him in the back of their truck. He’s not alone, however—Bonnie and Serena manage to sneak aboard before they drive away. The girls get locked inside by accident, but Serena manages to leave a trail of broken macarons—which Chespin quickly sniffs out, leading Clemont and Ash to the villains’ hideout!

In the meantime, James has plugged Professor Sycamore’s data into a mechanical Mega-Mega Meowth, which attacks our heroes! Chespin lets Clemont know it wants to battle, but neither Chespin nor Pikachu can make a dent in the mighty machine. But then, the Mega Blaziken that rescued Ash when he fell from Prism Tower reappears, along with its Trainer, a mysterious man in a Blaziken mask. Mega Blaziken’s incredibly powerful Flamethrower leaves Mega-Mega Meowth charbroiled, along with the actual Meowth who’s been controlling it, and Team Rocket is sent blasting off again. As our heroes head back to the lab with the professor, Mega Blaziken’s Trainer is watching over them—now without his mask. It’s Meyer, Clemont and Bonnie’s dad!

At the lab, Ash, Serena, Clemont, and Bonnie are saying their farewells when Bonnie notices Chespin watching them. Clemont thanks the Pokémon for its help against Team Rocket and says they’ll meet again soon, but it seems clear that Chespin wants to come along! And so, with Clemont’s friend Chespin now part of the group, the journey to Cyllage City continues!

Clemont’s Got a Secret!

When our heroes arrive in Lumiose City, Ash and Serena look around in awe, while Clemont and Bonnie seem a little nervous. The impressive Prism Tower catches Serena’s eye, and Ash tells her about his attempt to challenge the Lumiose Gym inside it—an attempt that was quickly shut down by a robot who threw him out upon learning he didn’t have four Kalos Gym badges yet. Clemont waves this off and Bonnie tries to get them moving when someone pulls up beside them—it’s Meyer, Clemont, and Bonnie’s father!

Meyer soon reveals that Clemont himself is the Lumiose City Gym Leader, much to Ash’s and Serena’s surprise! Clemont explains that the Gym was taking up too much of his time (the time he’d rather spend working on his inventions), so he built a robot named Clembot to take over some of his duties. But a glitch in the programming left Clembot with a stubborn personality that sticks to the “rules” no matter what—and since Clemont doesn’t have four Gym badges either, Clembot won’t even let him inside his own Gym!

After a pep talk from Ash, Clemont is willing to try sneaking into the Gym so he can repair the malfunctioning robot. Inside, they find Clembot on the battlefield, where it finally accepts Clemont’s override code—and his battle challenge! Clemont sends out Bunnelby against his own Heliolisk, one of the Pokémon he left at the Gym to fight at Clembot’s side. The battle seems very one-sided at first, but Bunnelby proves it has a tough streak, and with some unexpected strategy, Clemont manages to defeat his own creation!

The robot finally recognizes its inventor, and Clemont starts a full reprogramming. This time, he remembers to install a few important qualities he left out in the original programming: compassion, kindness, and flexibility. Then, along with Ash and Serena, Clemont and Bonnie visit their dad to explain the whole situation at the Gym—and to tell him they want to leave the new and improved Clembot in charge so they can keep traveling with their new friends! Meyer happily declares his support for their journey but makes Ash and Serena promise to keep his kids out of trouble.

That night, Clemont asks Ash if he’s sorry he couldn’t have a Lumiose Gym battle. Ash says he plans to honor the original four-badge requirement and return when he’s a bit further along in his Kalos journey...on one condition. When he does come back to challenge the Lumiose Gym, he wants to battle Clemont, not Clembot!
